My love for cooking and baking started when I was 16, joining the army at such a young age. It wasn’t just about serving my country for me; it was also a chance to dive into something that sparked my curiosity. During my time in the military, I not only made it through basic training but also took an intensive catering course at Worthdown, which was a turning point. That course gave me the skills and confidence I needed to seriously pursue a career in catering within the army.

When I left the military, transitioning into civilian life was a bit of a whirlwind, but I brought my newfound passion for food with me. I found myself drawn to the restaurant and café industry, where I could keep growing and learning. It’s been an amazing journey, one that’s shaped who I am today, and I’m grateful every day for the opportunities to keep doing what I love.

When COVID-19 hit, life took an unexpected turn, and I found myself made redundant. It was a tough time, but a little silver lining appeared when I found a job at a cute local café just around the corner, which mostly did takeaway. One day, my boss casually asked if I could bake, and without even thinking, I said yes little did I know, that simple answer would lead me to where I am today.

For the next six months, I balanced two jobs—working during the day and baking in the evenings for the café. But after some soul-searching, I decided to take a huge leap and go fully self-employed. I transformed my house into a cozy little bakery, pouring my heart and soul into my passion for baking.

A year later, I took the next step and rented a lovely space to expand my business. Since then, it’s been such an exciting ride—baking, teaching, hosting workshops, and even offering catering for weddings, funerals, and corporate events. One of my absolute favorite things has been working on bespoke corporate events and getting to share my creations at local market stalls and events. It’s been so fulfilling to see how my business has grown, and I feel so lucky for all the opportunities I’ve had.

And that’s how Lizzy Bakes was born. What started during lockdown quickly turned into a beloved local business. Word spread fast about our cakes and tray bakes, and I couldn’t be happier. Each treat we make is a little piece of love, with flavors that are just to die for and the prettiest decorations. Lizzy Bakes has become a favorite in the community, known for creating mouthwatering, visually stunning baked goods that leave everyone coming back for more. It’s been a wild, wonderful journey, and I’m so grateful for every sweet moment along the way.
